Inn an interview with Amanda Gilbert in August 2005, Elizabeth Berry Small, Carl's sister, describes her brother Carl:
I so loved my brother Carl. He was only three years older than I was and we were very close. His personality was very much like that of my father's and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He was outgoing and popular and had many friends. He fell in love with Ida and they married when he was really young. After they married, they lived across the hall from my bedroom. I remember Papa really liked Ida. She was smart, outgoing, and would help on the farm - she could really pick cotton.
Papa died in 1934 and mother moved four weeks later to Austin. I will never forget when mother got the call from my Aunt Gertrude Kurth telling us to come to Lufkin right away because Carl was very ill. Carl died the following day on Thursday, December 7, 1939.
Thank you,
Amanda Cook Gilbert

Hi Anne:
I have a partial obit from Lufkin News dated Dec. 8, 1939 listing another son, James Ralph Berry. After Ida remarried, both boys took the name of their step-father McCalmont.
In Monroe's obit, Ralph and wife Susan are shown living in Oklahoma City. According to TXBI, James Ralph Berry was born July 27, 1935 in Angelina County. Apparently he is still alive.
Just wanted to share this information. Thanks
