MILITARY FUNERAL HERE WEDNESDAY FOR F. M. ACKLEY

Francis M. (Chick) Ackley, a well known business man of Winter, passed away at his home early Sunday morning, May 6th, a the result of a heart ailment.

"Chick", as he was so well known, was born in Chippewa Falls on April 1, 1895, and at the age of 12 years moved to Winter with his parents. He attended schools and was a graduate of the Winter High School. He was employed for quite a few years by the Edward Hines Lumber Co. In 1917 he enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States and took part in several major battles in France.

He was married to Miss Ella LeBoueff in 1919 and they have made their home in Winter since. In 1924 he became agent for the Standard Oil Company bulk plant in Winter and has operated it since that time.

Survivors include his wife, Ella; one son, Russell of Winter; one brother, Kenneth of the West Fork; one sister, Mrs. Vera O'Shaughnessy of Superior, one half-brother, Claire Shannon Ackley of Racine; and his step-mother, Mrs. J. W. Ackley of Rice lake.

The body lay in state at the Anderson Funeral Home in Hayward from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday when it was removed to the Presbyterian Church in Winter, where military funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev. S. A. Lay officiating. The Wright-Howard VFW Post and the Wacek-Slattery Post of the American Legion of Winter, jointly assisted in the final military rites. The Presbyterian choir with Mrs. H. B. Tucker was accompanist sang several numbers. Interment took place in the Winter cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives and friends attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. W. O'Shaughnessy of Superior, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ackley of the West Fork, Mrs. J. W. Ackley of Rice Lake, Claire Shannon Ackley of Racine, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Ackley of Chippewa Falls, Mrs. Wm. Ackley and son Ronald, of Chippewa Falls, Mr. and Mrs. George Wende of Hayward, Mrs. Kate Scott of Chippewa Falls, and several officials of the Standard Oil Company.
