Mrs. William (Fern) Scherry, 69, mother of Layke Scherry, principal of the
Poplar Grove School south of Bluffton, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Decatur
Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1892 at Craigville, she was the daughter of Daniel and
Louisa John Melching. Her marriage was to William Scherry, who survives.
A resident of Peterson in Adams County, she had been a patient at the
hospital since Feb. 17. She was a member of the Honduras United Church of
Christ and the Kirkland Ladies Club.
Surviving, in addition to the husband and son, who resides on Decatur
Route 2, is a daughter, Mrs. Luther (Wava) Arnold of Kirkland Twp.; a sister,
Mrs. Roy Heller, also of Kirkland Twp., and five grandchildren.
The body is at the Zwick Funeral Home at Decatur, where friends may call
after 7 p.m. today.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev.
Louis Minsterman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Luke's Cemetery.

Mrs. Fern Scherry Dies At Hospital
Funeral services will be held Monday for Mrs. Fern Scherry, 69, wife of William Scherry, of Peterson, who died at 1:40 p.m. Friday at the Adams County memorial Hospital. She had been ill for the past five weeks and hospitalized for three weeks.
She was born at Craigville Jan. 19, 1892, a daughter of Daniel and Louisa John Melching, and was married to William Scherry Aug. 6, 1910. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Aug. 6, 1960.
Mrs. Scherry was a member of the St. Luke's Evangelical and Reformed Church and the Kirkland Ladies Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband are one daughter, Mrs. Luther (Wava) Arnold of Kirkland Township; one son, Layke Scherry of Kirkland Township; five grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Roy (Mary) Heller of Kirkland Township. One son Brooks, and one sister and two brothers are deceased.
