He served the citizens of Roane County as a member of the Roane County Board of Education for 12 years.He was a founding member of the Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a church deacon. Additionally he was a member of the Dyllis Masonic Lodge #460 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, and Shriner's. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.
In addition to his wife Mary Frances Rose Barger, he was preceded by his parents, Charlie E. and Daisy Nell Hembree Barger and by a brother, Samuel Robert Barger.He is survived by a daughter, Marteina Ann Ingram and husband, Edward, by sons; Ricky Barger and wife, Joyce, Mickey Barger and wife, Pat, Dave Barger, and Terry Dewayne Barger all of Harriman, by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Tom B. Barger of Harriman, several nieces and nephews, and a host of special friends and additional family members.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm at the Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Randy Roper officiating. Burial and graveside services will follow at Roane Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Ben Atchley State Veteran's Home, Activity Department or the Alzheimer's Association. Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
