Age 88, son of the late Gilbert A. and Mary E. Foy Alward. Alward owned the Alward Meat Market for 38 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of Sarah Hearn Memorial Presbyterian Church. He also was a member of Lawrence Lodge No. 708 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Erie and Zem Zem Temple Shrine.

Alward was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Evans Alward; one grandson, Samuel A. Alward Jr., and one son, Gerald Alward.

He is survived by two sons, Samuel A. Alward Sr. and his wife, Ruth, of Washington, D.C., and Edwin Alward and his wife, Kathryn, of New Fairfield, Conn.; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Farrell Alward, of Erie; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
