Commemorative Biographical Record: He early engaged in the Oyster business, and eventually became Captain of oyster boats. Mr. Brown was a member of Adelphi Lodge No. 65: Pulaski Chapter: Crawford Council, F. & A.M. and the R.A.M. CAPT Brown was on the board of Selectmen for four years, and was always interested in public affairs. He was a Democrat in National politics. Professionally he was a member of the American Pilots Association. In religious connection he belonged to the Second Congregational Church, of New Haven. He died at home; apoplexy* while at the dinning table: (my Grandmothers note).

HISTORY OF THE CITY OF NEW HAVEN: P-621 "I.E. & F.F. Brown began business in 1861, and keeping pace with the progress of oyster culture, now control about 1,000 acres of oyster land, and plant about 25,000 bushels of seed annually. A building, 50-100 ft and wharf on the bank of the Quinnipiac are used for opening and packing. Steam power is used for catching the oysters from the beds, and 25 hands are employed in the several departments of the work. 1-25-1865 raised Master Mason Adelhi Lodge No 63 AF&AM New Haven
