"Private Lawrence V. Crane was killed in action on Cebu, March 30th. He had been in the armed services less than one year. Was born in West Stayton, Oregon, on June 11, 1919 [sic], and attended West Stayton schools. He married Jean Meng of Jefferson, and they have two children, lana [sic], 3 years, and Larry, 10 months. He was inducted from Stayton, took his basic training in Texas, and was home on furlough in November, 1944. He went overseas in December, 1944. Relatives include: brothers, Merle of Turner, Clem of Salem, and Keith with the 15th Air Force in Italy. Sisters include: his twin sister Florence Wodzewoda of Salem, Olive Sacre of Salem, Irma Koonz of portland; his mother, Mrs. Virginia Crane of Portland. Lawrence was an uncle of Clell Crane, who died in the fighting in Europe early in December, 1944."
