John Alfred Carr was the son of Alfred Columbus Carr and Jesse Kelly. He was born in McDowell County, North Carolina and enlisted in the US Army on April 10, 1944, 119 Infantry, 30th Division. Military Service number: 34969507. John died almost one year later on April 14, 1945 and is buried in the military cemetery in Lorraine, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart. John married Iola Elizabeth 'Ola' Effler in McDowell County, NC on October 14, 1938. They had two daughters Rena Mae and Mary Frances 'Frankie' Carr. He had two brothers Robert Mack and Charles Eugene and two sisters Willie Mae Carr Simpson and Ethel Lee Carr Wheeler.
