SCIPIO - William Robert (Bob) Amick, 70, of Scipio route 1, senior vice-president, agriculture consultant and public relations director at First National bank at North Vernon, died Monday evening at Bartholomew county hospital of cancer.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Scipio Presbyterian church by the Rev. M.H. Kennedy and the Rev. Harold Barnett. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Persons may call at the Charles Dove funeral home at North Vernon after 3 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 12:30 p.m. Thursday until the service.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Howard Childs of North Vernon; a brother, Chester Amick of Bound Brook, N.J.; four nephews and a niece, Mrs. Charles Davee of 3460 Nugent in Columbus.

Amick was born Feb. 20, 1903, at Maple Lawn Farms on Scipio route 1, where he resided most of his life. He was the son of Albert and Rosa Belle Amick and a descendant of one of the first settlers in the Scipio area of Jennings county.

Amick was graduated from Scipio high school and then was graduated from Purdue university in 1924. He did graduate work at Cornell university and received his masters degree in agriculture in 1935 from Purdue.

Amick began working in 1925 as state associate director of 4-H clubs with the Purdue University extension staff and retired in December of 1967 after 40 years.

During that time he was secretary-treasurer of the Indiana 4-H foundation, chairman of the National 4-H Extension committee on conservation of natural resources, co-sponsor of the nation's only "Corn Jamboree" in 1952 and director of the State Fair Boys school and State Conservation camps from the time of their inception.

Amick was named vice-president, agriculture consultant and director of public relations at the First National bank at North Vernon in February, 1968. He was later named senior vice-president and elected to the board.

Amick wrote a farm column for the North Vernon Sun newspaper for many years and was known for the roses, jonquils and other flowers he grew on Maple Lawn Farms, which he managed after his retirement from Purdue.

Amick was recognized for his work with youth many times, including Farm Bureau's Leaders award. In 1970 he received the Tom Wallace Farm Forestry award from the Louisville Courier-Journal and Times newspapers.

Amick was the Republican candidate for state representative from Jennings, Scott and Clark counties in 1968. He was a veteran of the second world war.

A member and elder of the Scipio Presbyterian church, Amick was a member of Pi Kappa Phi social fraternity, Epsilon Sigma Phi professional agriculture fraternity, Farm Bureau, American Men of Science, Rotary and the Masonic lodge.

He was a former chairman of the 4-H Keep America Beautiful program.
