Bennye at the age of 4 moved with her family to the Otto community near Marlin, where she was confirmed in ST. John's Lutheran Church. She moved to Weslaco in the early 1940's and there she met and married her first husband Ted Winship. They made their home in Corpus Christi. After Ted passed away in 1965 and many years later she met and married Burnis Adkins, who also preceded her in death. She worked for Pick's Restaurant in Corpus Christi for 37 years. She retired as manager in 1983.

She spent her retirement years doing what she loved doing, which was her flowers, sewing and quilting, playing dominoes with friends and going dancing.

She frequently visited her family members in Caldwell, Texas.

She was predeceased by her parents, brother Oscar Schulz and one sister. Millie Rickert.

She never had children and was survived by a step sister, Esther, one nephew and six nieces
