Funeral services Held Sunday for Mrs. Herb. Dahl
The Angel of Death relieved the earthly suffering of a beloved wife and mother of this community at 12:20 p. m. Thursday, January 20, when Mrs. Herbert Dahl passed away at her home in Gibbon. Mrs. Dahl had been ill for some time and had been a patient at University Hospital, Minneapolis, for a time last fall. Following her return home here she seemed to be recuperating and at Christmas she seemed to be on the road to recovery. However, shortly thereafter she took a turn for the worse and gradually declined until death ended her sojourn in our midst.
Funeral services were held from the home here Sunday afternoon followed by services in the Clear Lake Baptist church. At the services at home two songs, "Jesus, Blessed Jesus," and "Safe in The Arms of Jesus," were sung. The Rev. McClure gave the scripture reading using II Cor. 4:16 and 5:21. The Rev. V. C. Johnson said prayer. At the church services the Reverends Johnson and McClure delivered the sermons. Three songs were sung ‘God's Way Is The Best Way," We Shall Shine As The Stars," and "Eastern Gate." Interment was in the cemetery adjoining the church with Messrs Raymond Melquist, Helmuth Kreft, H. Nordlund, Wilbert Jacobson, Melvin Peterson and Wallen Jacobson serving as pall bearers. Pastor Johnson gave the scripture reading at the grave and Pastor McClure read the commitment.

Mrs. Herbert Dahl, nee Mildred Verona Jeanette Swenson, was born November 19, 1912 in Lafayette Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Clear Lake Lutheran Church where she held her membership until last year. She looked back to the period of her confirmation training as the time when she came to know Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She grew to womanhood in this community.
On May 19th, 1935 she was united in marriage to Mr. Herbert Dahl of Gibbon. The ceremony took place at the Bethel Baptist Church in Mankato, Minnesota. Since then they have lived in Gibbon.
Mrs. Dahl has served well in her churches. At the time she was stricken she was serving in this church as Sunday School teacher, Secretary of the Mission Circle and assistant pianist.
Over a period of many months Mrs. Dahl came to the conviction that her Lord would have her follow Him in the testimony of baptism by immersion. On May 16, 1948 she and her husband along with others gave their public testimony to their faith in the work of the risen Christ who died for the sins of all men. Since then she has been a member of the Clear Lake Baptist Church.
Her home going followed an illness of nearly a year. After consultation with the doctor it seemed wise last November 5th that she should go to the University Hospital for special tests to determine the cause of her illness. Since Pastor McClure was going to the Cities she made the trip with him. It was his privilege to assist in the procedure necessary to enter the Hospital. After 22 days she returned home and showed signs of recovery, but a relapse proved fatal. She went to be with her Lord and Savior from her home in Gibbon.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Carl S. Swenson, and an infant daughter, Jane.
She is survived by her husband, Herbert Dahl, and three children: Marlys Lorraine, Lyle Herbert and Barbara Lee. Her father Carl S. Swenson of Lafayette, 2 brothers, Hartwig Swenson of Lafayette, and Myron Swenson of La Crosse, Wis., and one sister, Edith Swenson of Lafayette.
She will also be missed by a host of friends.
