Agatha June Brookshire, 93, of 7 Brookshire Road, Leicester, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Emerald Ridge Health Care Center.

A native of Buncombe Co., she was born on June 14, 1917, to the late Robert Nelson and Maggie Smith Brookshire. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Christine Brookshire, Reva Murray, and Clara Doll; and a brother, Bron Brookshire.

She was a graduate of Southern Business University, of Charlotte, and attended the University of North Carolina, Asheville. For many years she worked as an employment assistant in the Personnel Office at American Enka. She often went beyond the call of duty to help people get work. For years, many people did not have phones, so June would figure a way to get them word and transportation to come for an interview. After retirement, she enjoyed her favorite hobby: gardening, raising all types of flowers. This hobby helped her provide and arrange flowers for many occasions. She was also very artistic in many other endeavors. She enjoyed traveling and has been throughout most of the United States and Canada.

She is survived by her sister, Maxine Brookshire and a niece, Eleanor Murray, both of Leicester.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Stan Welch officiating.

Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Her family gives their thanks to the staff of Emerald Ridge Health Care Center for their care of June.
