BROBECK SERVICES HELD IN CALIFORNIA
Mrs. James A. BROBECK, 88, passed away Sunday, November 26, at the Alliance Convalescent Hospital, Glendale, California, after a long illness. Mr. and Mrs. BROBECK moved to a retirement home in Glendale in 1969, and in June 1970 celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Ella JOHNSON was born February 10, 1884 to Frank and Priscilla JOHNSON in Tunnel City, Wisconsin. Orphaned when a teenager, she prepared herself to be a teacher, and after one year in normal school she began teaching in a country school in Wisconsin. The next year she came West and taught school in Rawlins, Wyoming, where she met Mr. BROBECK, manager of the Hugus and Co. store.
Shortly after their marriage on June 8, 1910, they moved to Steamboat Springs, where they lived for 36 years. They built four homes in Steamboat, and Mrs. BROBECK's yard was always a place of beauty. Mr. and Mrs. BROBECK were devoted to the work of their church, the Euzoa Bible Church, and for many years Mrs. BROBECK taught the high school boys' class in the Sunday School.
In 1947 the BROBECKs moved to Ft. Collins and in 1952 to Yucaipa, California. Another move in 1962 to Sherman Oaks, California, brought them closer to their son, Dr. David BROBECK, because of Mrs. BROBECK's failing health.
Mrs. BROBECK is survived by her husband; two sons, John of Philadelphia, David of Los Angeles and a daughter, Martha GROSSER, of Midland Park, New Jersey - also 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. An infant daughter preceded her in death. Funeral services and interment were in Inglewood, California.
