My great-grandfather was a son of Alonzo and Katie Jenkins Snoots. He was married twice. First time was to my great-grandmother Gladys Coulter. They had a son Lawrence and two baby daughters that died. Then he married Pearl Burrall Barthlow Hartsock and acquired four stepchildren: Joanna and John Barthlow, Peggy Biddinger and Austin Hartsock. He was also survived by grandchildren Lawrence, Barry and Carrie Snoots and great-granddaughter Jennifer (me!). He had many siblings, but only 2 sisters survived him, Lettie Wetzel and Minnie Caniford.
Great-grandad was not much for settling down. He spent much of his time living with his brother Lon in a cabin just steps from the Potomac River in Lander. Still everyone remembers him as a really friendly guy and a little bit of a character.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and later worked at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He is someone I really would have enjoyed knowing.
