Robert Lorimer was transferred to the UK in 1940 with the 1st Canadian General Hospital. During his stay in England he wanted to join a combat unit where he would be happier and requested for a transfer. After a medical examination and tests the psychiatrist recommended him that he was good for a commando unit. He was placed with the Seaforth Highlanders.

Robert was killed in action near Adrano on the 5th of August and buried in a field grave there.

Robert left his parents behind and four brothers. Two of his brothers also served in the Canadian Armed Forces. His brother Arthur was a gunner with the Royal Canadian Artillery and his brother Bruce was with the Royal Canadian Navy. Arthur died in 2002 at the age of 87. The family lived in Montreal.
