Thomas J. Guthrie Dies Saturday Morning

Thomas J. Guthrie, one of this community's oldest and best known citizens, died in a Batesville hospital Saturday morning, January 22, at the age of 81. Mr Guthrie appeared as well as usual until about Wednesday of last week, when he complained of not feeling so well. He grew worse on Friday and was taken to the hospital.

Mr Guthrie was born and reared in this immediate vicinity and with the exception of about one year's residence in Texas, his life was spent here. He was unusually active and energetic for one of his age, and for the past few years has worked regularly at his shop in the east part of town. He was a consistent reader and was well informed on current events. His mind was a store house of information on the early days in this vicinity, and he delighted in recounting incidents of long ago.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Mrs Ruth Jackson, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Burial was in Rose Lawn Cemetery at this place with the Roller Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Surviving, are one son, with whom he made his home; five daughters, Mrs George Maness and Mrs Agnes Woody of Dyess, Ark., Mrs Harriett Benbrook of Benton, Ark., Mrs Annie Smith and Mrs Maxine Russell of Calico Rock; one sister, Mrs Amanda Ducker of Pineville, Ark., and one brother, Oliver Guthrie, of Lockhart, Texas.
