B-17F "Ron Chee" #42-3123, while on a bombing mission over Bremen, Germany, was attacked by German aircraft and shot down during the war. They crashed in Fladdderlohausen, 10 miles southeast of Quackenbruck, Germany during the war.

Gillos was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
