OBITUARY OF WILLIS E. BAMFORTH

Willis Everett BAMFORTH died Sunday morning, May 5, following an illness of about six months. He had been receiving care at his home until Saturday when he was taken to the hospital when his condition had become critical. His daughter, Mrs. Frank E. CLUMPNER, arrived from Longview, Washington, on Friday.

Funeral services were conducted at the Steamboat Springs cemetery Wednesday morning under direction of A. W. Heyer. Rev. G. E. Pennell was the officiating clergyman. Pallbearers were R. L. WILSON, Charles ECKSTINE, William DELLINGER, F. E. MOCK, H. P. HEID and M. S. WHEELER. Many friends of Mr. BAMFORTH attended the service, which was a beautiful ceremony in the open.

W. E. BAMFORTH had been in Steamboat Springs since about 1914. Previously he had lived in other parts of Colorado, coming west more than 40 years ago because he had contracted tuberculosis. He engaged in the barber business in Steamboat Springs and retired from active work about eight years ago. Since then he had devoted his time to his real estate investments here which included several downtown business buildings.

He was born in Adams, Massachusetts, September 10, 1872. From an early age he was employed in a textile factory and was holding a responsible position when he came west. His marriage to Francis LEONARD occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in August, 1902. Mrs. Frank E. CLUMPNER is their daughter. There was a separation later and Mrs. CLUMPNER's mother now resides in St. Helena, Oregon.

Mr. BAMFORTH was married again in 1932 to Mrs. Elsie BOWDEN of Fort Collins, where the ceremony took place. She has not spent much of the time since then in Steamboat Springs because her health would not permit. She arrived from Fort Collins Sunday morning and will remain for a few days.

W. E. BAMFORTH was a familiar figure about town because of his personal interest in his real estate holdings. He did a great deal of the repair work and decorating when it was possible for him to do it. Reading and conversing with his friends were his pastimes. His philosophy of life was interesting in its originality. He was always ready with his opinions on current events and never lacked information. He belonged to no organizations and was very much of an individualist.
