Mahala Mendenhall was the daughter of Joshua Mendenhall and Elizabeth Youghar. She was the first of eleven children born to them in Huntington Indiana.
At the age of 19, she was joined in marriage to William Henry Harrison Rhoden, his infant son Harvey was joined by their first born the following year. In all, they had nine children.
Harvey was the son of William and Margaret Blue, and I believe that she died around the time Harvey was born. I have not found her death record yet, so I am still searching. When I found his birth record, Mahala is listed as his mother.He named his daughter Mahala in her honor.
William and Mahala were together for 30 years before he died in Wisconsin at age 55.
Mahala was preceded in death by her husband, daughters, Myrtle and Annie, sons Claudy, Levi and Ira. She was survived by her daughter Rosie Helzer and daughter Bertha Eaton, both of California. And her son Harvey Rhoden, of Ohio
Mahala lived with her daughter Bertha and son in law Andrew Eaton in California until about 1922 when she went to live with her granddaughter, Elsie Eubanks in Texas.
