He resided in Dubuque County, Iowa prior to the war.


He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 23, 1942 at Fort Des Moines, Iowa. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Salesperson and also as Single, without dependents.


B-17 #42-29901 took off from Kimbolton, England on a bombing mission to Nantas, France. They were hit by an aerial bomb dropped by a German fighter plane and crashed near Nantas, France during the war.


Edward was "Killed In Action" in this attack.


He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Purple Heart.
