Assumed command of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, relieving Major Parsons, at about 1:00 P.M., Sept. 11th. Battalion moved from Bois-des-Hayes by way of 2nd Division Headquarters, Bois-Montjoye to Lironville to P.C. of the battalion of the 89th Division holding the Front line along Limey, one company taking over the trenches at the west of Limey, the 18th Company taking over the trenches east of Limey, the 55th Company occupying Limey, the 43rd Company relieving part of the 90th Division in trenches Le Haricot. The 51st Company was stationed in the Bois-du-Buchot. This Battalion jumped off from these position[s]. At 11:50 the night of Sept. 11th, 350 replacements were brought to my P.C. in trench between Lironville and Limey, impossible to distribute these to their companies. Barrage opened at 1:00 A.M. Sept. 12th and 7:05 A.M. this battalion moved towards the Front, being the third battalion in line. We advanced by bounds as ordered in regimental order, and bivouaced for the night of the 12th and 13th on the south slope of the ridge immediately north of the Bois-d'Heiche. Two men wounded on this date.
Sept. 13th - Remained in bivouac until 5:00 P.M. when we relieved the 3rd Battalion, 9th Infantry in the support positions. Relief completed at 7:10. Bombarded by own Artillery and had three men wounded. All quiet during the night.
Sept. 14th - Manned support position, bombarded during day. One man killed and five men wounded. The 55th Company claims to have brought down enemy aeroplane by rifle fire. Plane landed in our lines.
