Charlie Ulrich, 73, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at his home of natural causes. Service: Lt. Col. Ulrich will be honored with a full military funeral service to be held at 9:45 a.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway. Gary L. Smith, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel and chaplian and a family friend, will officiate. Mr. Ulrich was born on May 15, 1937, in New Castle, Ind., to Woodrow and Thelma Ulrich. He was raised in Hagerstown, Ind., with his two older brothers, John and Robert. He graduated from high school in 1955 and went on to receive a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1960. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army and faithfully served his country for over 26 years. In 1961, he was transferred to Germany where he met the love of his life, Lore. They married on Dec. 24, 1963. After retirement from the Army in 1985, he went to work for Bell Helicopter where he was the project manager for the V22 Osprey. After retiring from Bell, he bought a motor home and he and his wife traveled the country. Charlie was an Eagle Scout and an avid reader. He loved traveling with his wife, and he especially loved traveling to Germany and Bavaria. He was a devoted father and husband, and had a wonderful sense of humor, a kind soul and was a loyal friend to many. Survivors: Mr. Ulrich is survived by his wife, Lore; his children, sons, Peter and Michael and his daughter, Susan; daughters-in-law, Sonya and Krisztina; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nicole, Megan, Sarah and Michelle. He is also survived by his brothers, John and Robert, and sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Shirley.
