Walter A Reichert was born 28 Aug 1921 in Osgood, Ohio, to August J Reichert and Anna L Lauber. He graduated from Minster High School in 1939 where he was on the school baseball team. He entered the University of Dayton the following year and graduated from the School of Business Administration on 10 Apr 1943. He was a member of the ROTC at the university for four years and entered the Army after graduation. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant on 23 Aug 1943 at Ft Benning, Georgia. After six weeks of training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia, and also at Camp Rutner, North Carolina, he was sent to Ft George G Meade, Maryland and from there he went overseas, landing in North Africa on 7 Feb 1944. He arrived in Italy on 9 Feb 1944 and drowned on the Anzio beachhead on 9 May 1944.
