Raymond served as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator on B-24J #42-51837, 757th Bomber Squadron, 459th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Pierce County, Washington prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on February 18, 1943 at Buckley Field, Denver, Colorado. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in miscellaneous occupations and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-51837 took off, with a crew of 10, from Cerignola, Italy on a bombing mission over Linz, Austria. During a successful bombing run they developed engine trouble possibly from anti-aircraft fire. While returning to base they developed more engine trouble and ended up ditching off the coast of Italy in the Gulf of Manfredonia. Only two crew members survived the ditching.

Raymond was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Raymond also has a "cenotaph" in the Fraola Cemetery, Port Orchard, Washington.
