Pvt Ralph C. Pulliam attended grammar school and enlisted in Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 6 July 1943 as a Private. He received his paratroop wings the following January at Fort Benning in Georgia. Before entering military service he was employed for four months as a section laborer at Durant, Miss. He was sent overseas in July of 1944.

He was a private in the 82nd Airborne Division when he was Killed in Action near Beek, Holland.

Pvt Pulliam was killed at a roadblock in Beek together with Pvt James Murray, Pfc James S. Stephenson and Pvt William B. Harris.
