Norman served as a Flight Officer & Navigator on B-17G #44-6173, 534th Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on July 2, 1943 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-17G #44-6173 took off, with a crew of 8, from Ridgewell, England on a bombing mission over Stendal, Germany. Right after " bombs away " they were hit by ground anti-aircraft fire which caused the B-17 to catch on fire and eventually crashed. " 6 " of the crew were lost and " 2 " survived...

Norman was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
