Statement:
"After the bomb run, engine # 4 was hit by flak and later the fuel tank of # 2 was blown away. Lt. Humason let the plane drop from the formation near the town of Munster and suddenly they were attacked by German fighters who wanted to finish the job.
Because of battle damage and the oxygen system was hit, the plane was diving into a cloud to protect them against fighter attacks. The gunners shot at least 2 fighters down but by the fighter attacks at least Sgt. Anderson and Sgt. Robbins were wounded but not very bad.
Before they reached the cloud at least 3 of 4 bailed out, probably they were already above the Netherlands. Sgt. Anderson and Robbins bailed out true the waist window. Sgt. Anderson hit the tail when he bailed out and was later found in the village Voorst, The Netherlands."
Sgt Anderson was buried at the cemetery of Ugchelen, near Apeldoorn, The Netherlands and after the war buried on the American War Cemetery Margraten, where he still is buried.
