Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, John was not officially declared by the military as being dead until May 12, 1945, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

John served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24H "Merchant of Venice" #41-28664, 785th Bomber Squadron, 466th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Onondaga County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 19, 1942. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

John was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-24 was hit by German flak and crashed in western France during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.
