Married Mary Wheelwright Dec. 18, 1774, the widow of Rev. James Greaton.

Benjamin graduated from Princeton in 1751. In 1760 he received an honorary degree of A.M. from Yale College. In 1762 he studied medicine in Edinburgh and London. Entered Leyden Univ. from which he received a Medical Doctor degree in 1764. Dr. Prime was a diligent student, mastered several languages in which he could converse and write with equal ease.
He returned to Huntington around 1773 as the talk of American independence began taking hold. He married and had a son, Ebenezer, born in 1775.
He began public speaking, authored many patriotic songs and poems.
He was alleged to be a member of the Sons of Liberty that took part in the destruction of the statue of King George III in Bowling Green Park in July 1776.
His daughter, Liberty was born in Huntington in 1777.
He continued his part in the verbal fight for independence.
He was sought by the occupying British troops for his "treason" at the Bowling Green and was compelled to flee with his family in 1778 across the Long Island Sound and live in exile in Connecticut. Driven from his home, he indulged his pen with caustic severity upon the enemies of his country and did much to raise the hopes and stimulate the exertions of his fellow citizens.
His daughter Ann was born in Connecticut in 1780 followed by his daughter Mary in 1782.

Following the surrender at Yorktown in the fall of 1781 and the withdrawal of British Troops from Huntington in 1783. Benjamin and his family returned to Huntington in 1784. His son, Nathaniel Scudder Prime was born in Huntington in 1785.

The American Patriot, Dr. Bemjamin Youngs Prime, died in October 1791, two months shy of his 58th birthday.
