Tech. Sgt. John Ellis Pryor, Jr., 24 years old, lost his life on a bombing mission in the North African theater of the war Sept. 4, his father and stepmother Mr. and Mrs. John E. Pryor of Chaffee were notified by the War Department.
He had attended school at Chaffee and graduated from high school at Kennett.
He enlisted in the Army Air Force and trained as a radio operator. He had sailed for foreign service on March 1,
He was survived by the father and step-mother, and two sisters, Mrs. Louis Cannon of Chaffee and Mrs. Agnes Griffin of Rockview.

The October 8, 1943 issue told of Memorial Service for Chaffee Soldier.
It stated he was killed in a bomber crash in the North Africa area, all members of the crew lost their lives, except the pilot. The pilot later wrote his parents and told them their son was buried in North Africa.
