Alice "Pauline" served as a Private First Class in the Women’s Army Corps, and was a passenger on C-47B #44-76406, 1202nd Air Air Force Base Unit, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

She resided in Marquette County, Wisconsin prior to the war.

She enlisted in the Women's Army Corps on April 12, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was noted, at the time of her enlistment, as being employed as a waitresses and also as Single, without dependents.

C-47B #44-76406 took off, with a crew of 3 and 18 passengers, from Accra, Ghana on a transport mission to Robert's Field, Liberia. For an unknown reason "Mayday's" were heard from the C-47. They disappeared and are believed to have crashed into the sea near Takordi, Ghana. All 21 on board were lost.

Alice "Pauline" was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.

At the families request, her state of birth was added to her Wall Listing (Michigan) instead of her state of residence, as was normally done, (Wisconsin).

She also has a "cenotaph" in the Big Bay Cemetery, Big Bay, Michigan.

Alice Pauline McKinney was born 13 June 1917 in Antrim Co, Michigan. Her parents were Frank and Nellie McKinney. They lived in Big Bay, Powell Twp., Michigan at the time of Pauline's (as her family called her) death.
Pauline also had a brother, William killed in Belgiun Oct of 1944. Another brother Edward did make it home.

The 1920 census indicates that she lived in Garden, Delta, MI.
