Topeka State Journal Monday 17, July, 1972:

Charles S. Crank, 64, Topeka, former chief of detectives of the Topeka Police Dept., died today at his home after a long illness.

Born Dec. 1, 1907 at Hill city, he lived in Topeka since 1929. He was graduated from Washburn University in 1933 and was co-captain of the football team there in 1932.

He joined the Topeka Police Dept. in June of 1934. He was graduated from the FBI Police School in 1942. He retired as chief of detectives in 1958. He was an investigator for the alcoholic Beverage Control Board for 10 years and retired in 1971.

He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge No. 90, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Arab Shrine, Topeka Elks Lodge No. 204 and Central Congregational Church.

Survivors include his widow, Viola Stephens Crank of the home; a son, Charles S. Crank, Monterio, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Driskell, Oklahoma City, and a grandchild.

Services will be Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
