Ms. Cecil Cartrette McCumbee, age 89, formerly of Tabor City, NC, died Friday, November 16, 2018 in Hope Arbor Assisted Living in Loris, SC. Born May 25, 1929 in Columbus County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Cartrette and Martha Richardson Cartrette and the widow of Fred Cole McCumbee.
She is survived by three daughters, Teresa Long and husband Rev. Kenneth of Leland and Ocean Isle Beach, NC, Pamela Majewski and husband Rich of Monroe, NC, Cecelia Johnson and husband Barry of Blairs, VA; one brother, Herman “Joe” Cartrette of Whiteville, NC; one sister, Lucille Sellers of Whiteville, NC; eight grandchildren, Ken Long Jr., Kelley Wolf, Cole Gaskins, Megan Gaskins, Trevor Dawson Fowler, Shannon Fowler, Jonathan McCumbee, Jeremy McCumbee; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Freddie Michael McCumbee; three brothers, Thurman “Jack” Cartrette, James Clarence Cartrette, Jerry Cartrette; and one sister, Brenda Creech.
She was a member of Tabor City Baptist Church and the Eastern Star.
Visitation will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 from 1 to 2 PM in the Inman Ward Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2 PM in the chapel. Burial will be in the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarendon, NC.
