Margaret Adams Kimsey was called "The Madonna of the Mountains". Her late husband, William A. Kimsey, was an early settler in the area. They were married in 1863, two years before the Civil War, when she was 17 and he was about a year older. Mr. Kimsey died in 1898 and Margaret lived until 1928 and died when she was almost 82. The picture shown was made during her last years. She is shown wearing the shawl that she wore constantly. She also smoked a pipe, until she burned a hole in her favorite quilt, so she threw the pipe out the window and never smoked again.

Originally the date of birth was listed as March 15, 1846 but in the 1900 census it was listed as July 1846 and in the book of the Kimsey family that Alga B Kimsey wrote, it lists her date of birth as 30 July 1846 so I am changing it to that.
