Charles "Chuck" A. DeWitt of San Marcos passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009, in Slidell, La.

He was born Feb. 9, 1920 in Geneva, Neb.

One of nine children, Chuck is survived by two sisters, Dorthy Bohm and Jean Cady of Kansas.

Chuck also leaves behind a son, Donald DeWitt, his wife, Anice and their children, Robert DeWitt, April Delanoy, Donna Espino and two beautiful great-grandchildren, Keegan Delanoy and Rafael Espino. He is also survived by lifelong friends and neighbors, Becker Alton, Max Braffett and mailman of 25 years, Rocky Salmon.

Chuck proudly served his country from May 1942 to October 1945. Chuck was a wonderful father, the "coolest" grandfather and a "great" grandfather. Chuck will also be remembered as a "Great Fisherman."

Chuck was happiest after marrying his soul mate, Millie, who passed away in 1984. Chuck never remarried and looked forward to the day that they would be together again.

He will be missed by all who knew him!

Family will receive friends at Pennington Funeral Home, from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 24. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 25 at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, with the Rev. Mel Newman officiating.
