George Barnes came to America about 1772 on business but due to the war troubles he could not return to Ireland.

He married Agnes Bunch in 1771.

He enlisted in the Revolutionary Army at Hillsborough, Va in 1780.

When he first came to KY in 1786 to Mercer County, his party was attacked by Indians and two of his sons (George W. and Robert) were carried away and never heard from again. He, Agnes, and their remaining three children moved to northern Christian County in 1797 where he established a farm that remained in his family's direct line of descent for over two hundred years.
