Bert was the son of Benjamin Catchings and Mary Alice Craig Catchings. He was married to Eunice Arco "Una" Branum, daughter of Amos Washington Branum and Celestia A. Stephens. One child ( Alene Catchings) lived to adulthood. Following Una's death he married Jessie Cleveland.
