WALTHAM PATROLMAN
4/14/1985 - 5/15/2005

Son of Floyd T & Dominca R (Delfino) Dowdy

A man who always came in to work with a new joke to tell, Robert Thomas Dowdy was an officer who colleagues said exemplified the Waltham Police Department's motto of "Protecting and Serving with Pride." Officer Dowdy died May 15 in Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge after suffering injuries sustained in a fall. He was 50.

In his 20 years on the Waltham force, Officer Dowdy received numerous citations and commendations. In 1987, when his own apartment building was burning down, Dowdy risked his own safety and re-entered the structure several times to make sure all residents were out and safe.
