Joseph J. Wildhaber, Sr., 89, of Waterloo, Illinois, formerly of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 9:52 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at the Oak Hill Nursing Center in Waterloo, Illinois.

Born March 20, 1924 in Fort Madison, Iowa the son of Louis A. and Catherine M. (Holterhaus) Wildhaber, Sr. On December 29, 1945 he married Doris A. Wenke at St. Joseph's Church in Fort Madison, Iowa .

Survivors include one son Joseph J. (Linda) Wildhaber, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas, one daughter Rebecca S. (Scott) Courtney of Waterloo, Illinois, four grandchildren Joseph H. (Becky) Wildhaber of Fort Worth, Texas, Julie (Chad) McBride of Weatherford, Texas, Stacey (Aaron) Drake of St. Louis, Missouri and Christian Courtney of Fairview Heights, Illinois, seven great-grandchildren Chase McBride, Chelsea McBride, Noah Drake, Ella Drake, Seth Drake, Anna Drake and Hayden Wildhaber, one sister-in-law Norma Yaley of Fort Madison, Iowa, two brothers-in-law John Wenke of Topeka, Kansas and Ronald Wenke of Cheyenne, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of sixty four years, Doris, three brothers Charles Wildhaber, Justin Wildhaber and Louis Wildhaber, Jr., one sister Virginia Beresford and five sisters-in-law Grace Pulis, Letha Weidmann, Lucy Guenther, Evelyn Kidd and Mary Meeks.

Joe was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa and the St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison, Iowa. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Joe worked for the Amoco Pipeline Company for thirty seven years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of the West Point Knights of Columbus Council #2286 for seventy one years and was a past Grand Knight. Joe also was a member of the Gallitzin Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and the Holtz-Geers American Legion Post #668 in West Point. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and traveling. Most of all he enjoyed his family and friends.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home in West Point, Iowa. The family will meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa with Father Dennis Hoffman as Celebrant. Burial with full military rites by the Holtz-Geers American Legion Post #668 of West Point will be in the Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Memorials may be made in his memory to the St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa or St. James Catholic Church in Millstadt, Illinois.
