Son of Joseph Allan WATSON and Vertie WATSON Watson. His step-mother was Sarah Ellen WALKER Watson. He married Vertie Ivalee WARD.

Mr. Norman Lee Watson, 93, of 2501 Shawnee Road, Banner Elk, died Tuesday evening, July 27, 2004, at his home.

He was born July 28, 1911, in the Stony Fork community of Watauga County, to the late Joseph Allan and Vertie Watson Watson.

Mr. Watson was a retired construction worker from Carolina Caribbean Corporation and a farmer. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Ms. Reba Milton of Mooresville and Reatha Barnes and husband, Joseph, of Banner Elk; four sons, Fred Watson and Clyde Watson and wife, Audrey, all of Banner Elk; Earl Watson and wife, Ruth, of Taylorsville and Darrel Watson and wife, Ellen, of Deep Gap; three sisters, Mrs. Beulah Greene of Fleetwood, Sylvia Eller and husband, Kermit, of Lenoir and Evalee Spears and husband, Plato, of Purlear; two brothers, Levi Watson of Deep Gap and Leslie Watson and wife, Judy, of Wilson; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Watson of Banner Elk. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vertie Ward Watson; a son, Burl Watson; three sisters, Julie Watson, Goldie Holman and Ula Hooper; three brothers, Dallas Watson, Nolan Watson and Clarence Watson; a grandson, Samuel Thomas Stroud; and his step-mother, Ellen Walker Watson.

Services will be conducted Saturday at 12 o'clock noon at Bethany Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. Officiating will be the Rev. Harvey Presnell and the Rev. Lynn Shook. Burial will follow in the Watson Family Cemetery in Banner Elk.

The family will receive friends this evening (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. at Hampton Funeral Service.

Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
