JOHN J. CRAWLEY SUCCUMBS TODAY
Well Known Citizen Passes Away At Home at 1923 South F Street This Morning.
John J. Crawley, 64, residing at 1923 South F street, died at 4:50 o'clock this morning of a complication of ailments. He had been in failing health since suffering a stroke of apoplexy about two years ago.
The son of Patrick and Bridget Crawley, he was born in Castlerea county, Cloonflower, Ireland, February 2, 1870 and in 1889 he came to this country.
Forty years ago Mr. Crawley came to Elwood.
He was employed at the Elwood American Works of the American Sheet and Tin Plate Company.
Mr. Crawley was one of Elwood's most highley esteemed citizens and enjoyed a wide circle of friends. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Church and the Holy Name Society.
Leaves Five Children.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Crawley, one son, John Crawley, of Chicago, Ill.; four daughters, Mrs. Josephine Ferguson, of Anderson; Mrs. Catherine Beber, of Huntington; Mrs. Agatha Castonguay, of Parkersburg, W. Va., and Miss Veronica Crawley, at home; one brother, Patrick Crawley, of Ireland, and two sisters, Mrs. Bridget Paine, and Miss Anna Crawley, both of Pautucket, R.I. There is one grandchild.
The body was removed to the York Memorial Chapel to be preapred for burial and will be returned to the family home this evening.
Funeral Monday Morning.
Funeral services will be conducted at the St. Joseph's Church Monday morning at 8 o'clock with the pastor, Father Biegel, in charge. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery.
