PONTIAC - Nora Jane Arwood, 96, Pontiac, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday (June 9, 2009) at the ASTA Care Center of Pontiac.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Martin-Burke Funeral Home, Pontiac, with the Rev. Gretchen Stinebaugh officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials in Nora's name may be left to the American Diabetes Association or the ASTA Care Activities Fund.
Nora was born March 26, 1913, in North Carolina, a daughter of Harvey and Lockie Davis Hughes. She married Garrett Arwood on Dec. 23, 1926, in Tennessee. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1993.
She was preceded in death by her son, Norman Arwood; a daughter, Mary Fries; a granddaughter, Tammy Delp; a sister; and two brothers.
Mrs. Arwood worked at Brockton Heel in Pontiac for many years and had worked at Illinois Laundry in Ottawa. She was of the Baptist faith.
