Mrs. Alex (Elma) Wood, 81, of Pipestem, died in a Princeton Hospital Saturday night following a long illness. She was a member of the Cook's Chapel Baptist Church at Pipestem and was born in Summers County, a daughter of the late Albert and Clara Underwood Caldwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband and four sons. Survivors include two sons, Dewey Wood of Pipestem and Nathan Wood of Richmond, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Stella) Neely and Mrs. Nathan (Maxine) Hopkins, both of Richmond, Mrs. Leonard (Janice) Whiteside of Chester, Va., and Mrs. John (Katherine) Martin of Bluewell; three sisters, Mrs. Eva McNamara of Newport News, Va., Mrs. Blaine Jennings of Athens and Mrs. Donzie Kessinger of Princeton; three brothers, Brady Caldwell of Bellingham, Wash., Estel Caldwell of Lerona and Hollise Caldwell of Pipestem; 24 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 pm. At the Burns-Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton with Rev. Fred Cook and Rev. Johnny Atkinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Mount Cemetery at Pipestem. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 pm.
