Married Anna Mary Koch (daughter of John Koch & Katherine Cramer) on 25 Mar 1849 at Hamilton County, Ohio.

Benjamin was an inventor; he was the founder of the Van Duzen Gas and Gasoline Engine Co. in Cincinnati, which produced engines used on some of the earliest farm tractors. The first John Deere tractor was powered by a Van Duzen engine.

Benjamin passed away at his residence in Winton Woods (Cincinnati) due to complications from pneumonia and old age. He was buried at Spring Grove on 16 Feb 1907.
