James came to America in 1820 At the age of 50 from Fermanagh Co Ireland. He married Sarah Monahan. They had five children, Nancy,James,Thomas,and Patrick were all born in Ireland. William was bron in Pennsylvania. He arrived in Clark Co. Mo.about 1830. It is recorded in the History of ST Patrick Church that James and three other men helped build the first ST Patrick Church near ST Patrick Cemetery in 1834. This first church was erected out of logs and reportedly had a dirt floor with wooden benches for seating. He settled on land in Lewis co. at Derrahs MO. in 1836. He lived to be 110 years and 6 months young.
