She attended Wingate College and graduated from Meredith College in Raleigh. She was a retired teacher from the Catawba County School System, teaching for over 30 years everywhere from Rock Springs to Bunker Hill. At her funeral service, many flowers were tagged with the names of schools, and she would have loved that.
She and husband Paul Herman were married for 58 years. They met each other at a Balls Creek Camp Meeting.
"Miss Bertie" was a kind person who kept things on an even keel.
Mrs. Herman is survived by her daughter, Myra Herman Orders and husband, Lee; son, Thomas Herman and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Amanda Orders, Ashley Orders, and Glenn Herman and Jessica Herman;sisters, Neva Sipe and Mildred Drum and husband, Cletus.
