Edward Doty was born in Houcktown, Hancock Co., Ohio on September 16, 1854 to John Doty and Margaret (Walters) Doty. He married Maletha Anna Houck and they had four Children together; Effie, twins Maude and Claude and Harley Eugene Doty.
Edward was educated in the district school and attended Mt. Blanchard High School. He was a teacher in the schools of Hancock co. until his health failed and he had to give up teaching. After he gave up teaching he became a farmer. He owned 80 acres of his father's farm in Jackson Township. He farmed until he was too old for this type of work and retired to Houcktown.
