Harold Lavern Whitaker, 78, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, at home in Dallas.

Harold was born in Albany to Floyd and Gladys Whitaker. He was a 1946 graduate of Albany High School.

He and Lois Johnson, the love of his life, were married in Tangent on May 31, 1952. They lived in Albany for 11 years, until moved to Salem where Harold worked for Blue Bell Potato Chip Company, owned laundromats and drycleaners, A & W Restaurants and a Hamburgers International Restaurant. He served on the school board at Salem Academy and was an active member of Salem Evangelical Church. In 1990, they moved to Dallas, where Harold and Lois were the owners of The Decorated Wall until their retirement in 1997.

Harold enjoyed fishing, hunting, sports and music. His circle of friends and family was large. He was happy and content being anywhere with his family, as his family meant the world to him. He touched so many people's lives in an unforgettable way and will always be remembered.

Harold is survived by wife Lois; daughters and sons-in-law Julia and Tony Rose, Karen and Bob Palmer, Cindy and Jim Friesen, Jan and Dave Winters and Marcy and Mark Wellman; grandchildren Erika and Ashley Rose, Angie, Katie and Libby Palmer, Jordan and Matthew Friesen, JD and Crystal, Tyler and Jillian, and Alexa Winters, and Cory, Jared and Taylor Wellman; great-grandchildren Austin and Jackson Winters; sister and brother-in-law Lugene and Wendell Zehr; and brother and sister-in-law Ron and Tina Whitaker.

Harold's life will be celebrated Sunday, Oct. 8, at Salem Evangelical Church.
