John R. Holmes was the son of Isiah Holmes and Elizabeth Ann Morris Holmes, the husband of Polly Ann Kelley Holmes and the brother of James Edmon Holmes, also buried at Rock Springs Cemetery. John and Polly were married 9/11/1873 and two of their children are also buried at Rock Springs Cemetery (1) Rosa Lee Holmes Royal Thompson (2) H. Woodfin Holmes. Other children include (3) Z. B. "Zillabee" Holmes #5992642 (4) A.R. "Artemus" Holmes #6281201 (5) Mary Ann Holmes Abrams # 16891974 (6) Leander Holmes (7) Doshia A. Holmes Crane # 62040101 (8) Buell Garie Holmes (9) Albert Franklin Holmes (10) Queen Isabella Holmes and (11) Mattie Holmes Roberson Nichols # 27372089.
