Robert D. Carson, 78, of Elizabethtown, died at 8:53 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Carson was a member of Scipio Presbyterian Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grand and great-grandchildren. He served in the United States Navy. He was an Engine tester at Cummins Engine Company retiring after 34 years.

The funeral will be conducted 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with the Rev. Mitchell J. Coggin officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Entombment will follow in Garland Brook Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scipio Presbyte-rian Church.

Mr. Carson was born in Grammer, Ind. May 17, 1932, the son of Curtis and Ethel Critzer Carson. He married Yvonne Helt July 1, 1955 at the Scipio Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife of Elizabethtown; children, Bill (Dana) Carson of Columbus, Chuck (Margaret) Carson of Elizabethtown and Linda (Pat) Ross of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Julia Carson of Columbus, Michelle (Justin) Colglazier, Dianna and Karla Carson of Elizabethtown, Brandy (Rob) Patterson of Greenwood, Patricia Ross of Massachusetts and Jody Ross of Elizabethtown; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter Abigail Carson.
